They've arrived!
A date to remember - Monday 16th March 2009. From 9am Birchway's construction site saw a marked increase in activity as firstly a massive mobile crane was inched into place, followed by the arrival of the first of 13 'pods' to make up Building One. The construction team were blessed by early Spring sunshine as each of the steel framed structures was carefully taken from low loaders, and swung precisely into place on the prepared foundations.
The delicate operation involved each of the units being guided into position with tollerances of less than 5mm. This operation took two days - it's hoped that the next Buildings Two to Five will be even quicker!
The pods arrived fully watertight, with all fixtures and fittings in place. Through the windows one can see fully fitted kitchens and bathrooms all ready for the new residents.
Over the next few weeks, four more delivery and assembly operations will take place. Throughout this time, the on-site construction workers will focus on the exterior of the units, creating a final finish of brick and timber cladding.
