The Birchway eco story
Birchway Eco-Community's story is an exciting one! The realisation of a vision to create a thriving community within a relatively confined area which has a genuinely minimal impact on its immediate and wider surrounds.
We have created a unique community for Hayes. Unbelievably green, big community spirit, and a design that seamlessly integrates into the existing surrounds and neighbourhood. From unused allotments, to much-needed housing that will be kind to the environment, this is a story which will last the test of time.
At a glance - how Birchway has shaped up:
- 24 brand new homes; a mixture of one
and two bedroom apartments across five buildings
- The two-storey buildings have been built to some of
the country’s highest standards in eco-construction
- The buildings are architecturally unique, with many outstanding
design features to help them blend seamlessly into their surrounds
- A key feature is each building's ‘sedum’ roof – a living structure of
grass and flora which will be visible from neighbouring houses
- Other interesting features include photovoltaic (solar powered) cells to power communal areas, and a low-carbon-emission Biomass boiler for heating and hot water
- Consideration to the immediate environment includes appropriate
parking, cycle store, and a communal garden
- The new homes are for Hillingdon residents who pay
affordable rent to Paradigm Housing Group. People qualifying for
housing have been selected from Hillingdon’s housing register
- New residents are being encouraged to sign up to a ‘green charter’ – describing ways of
running their home and their lifestyle with minimal impact on their
immediate and wider environment.
