The design and planning process

Birchway Eco Community has been in the planning process for several years. Developing new homes within an existing urban setting does have its challenges!

To achieve successful planning, we need to ensure anybody and everybody that could or will be affected by the new project is consulted.

Consequently, the application for the project was reviewed a number of times prior to final approval in January 2008.

The design and planning process has successfully answered the following key objectives:

• To achieve an exemplary standard of sustainability in all aspects of the design

• To minimise the impact of the scheme on the residential amenity and character of the area

• To address the concerns of residents in relation to introducing new housing onto a limited size of land
  
• To retain a green landscaped quality to the development with planting used three dimensionally on the vertical surfaces and roofs as well as to the ground level.
